At least two utility companies in Baldwin County have asked customers to limit the use of water.

Riviera Utilities sent an alert asking customers to conserve water by avoiding irrigating and avoiding any unnecessary water usage.

A more unexpected event put Fairhope Public Utilities customers into an immediate Phase III of the City’s emergency water conservation plan. Phase III is the most serious and prohibits watering lawns, washing cars and filling swimming pools.

The City said one of the water wells had a mechanical failure that required urgent repair. They are working on the well.

“This loss has decreased our water capacity by approximately one million gallons,” the City said in a statement. “Currently, water usage stands at 9.4 million gallons.”

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Baldwin County is not experiencing dry conditions at this time. However, it has been 10 days since most areas have seen a significant amount of rain.
