NASA's Crew-7 mission made a safe re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and landed in the Gulf of Mexico early Tuesday.
SpaceX's Dragon Endurance spacecraft returned to Earth around 4:40 a.m. The capsule was carrying a NASA astronaut, a Japanese astronaut, a member of the European Space Agency and a Russian cosmonaut.
The crew has been on a six-month mission to the International Space Station.
While some people woke up early to catch a glimpse of the capsule returning, others were unaware and were awoken by what they described as a big boom.
The boom was heard and felt in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
A SpaceX capsule splashed down in the same area last year after a similar mission.
