Sometimes, a change in leadership is just what a failing business needs to turn things around. That's what most Americans are hoping for after President-elect Donald Trump's resounding victory on November 5.
Alabama businessman and former sixth congressional district candidate Gerrick Wilkins joined "1819 News: The Podcast" last week to discuss Trump's victory and why it has so many Democrats and even some Republicans nervous.
"When you look at the results that we saw, that the American people are just fed up with the status quo. We don't want to have career politicians that, as I would say when I was running on the campaign trail, that drove us into the ditch," Wilkins said.
"I mean, at the end of the day, you look at the problems we're talking about, they're the same problems we were talking about a decade ago. They're just getting worse. And it's happened because of the same old same old," he continued. "Whether it's Republicans or Democrats, we have a uniparty that has pushed us down this path. And I have no doubt that President Trump is going to clean house and is going to really work on pushing us to where we need to get to, to get our country back to where it is. I mean, the greatest country in the world, and the left has been trying to destroy that. And it's just interesting to see."
Wilkins said that Trump now has a mandate to affect real change after winning the Electoral College and the popular vote, and surrounding himself with successful businessmen like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy is a good sign that he will follow through.
"There is no doubt that [Trump] has given up his wealth; he's given up all of his luxury life to save America, and that's what we saw that provided him this mandate. The American people didn't buy into the lies the left tried to keep throwing at him. They didn't buy into any of that," Wilkins said. "And that's why I'm so encouraged to see what's going to happen this coming year, and I look forward to seeing Elon come in with government efficiency and helping dismantle the bureaucracy, kind of like what he did with TwitterX. And it's just going to be great to see. I'm excited."
