The deadline for families to apply for Alabama's school choice program is March 31.

Governor Kay Ivey reminded families they must apply for a renewal to be eligible for the 2026-27 school year. New applicants or those previously denied must also complete their applications to be accepted.

"The CHOOSE Act is giving families across our state the opportunity to choose the education that best fits their children's needs," said Ivey. "With the March 31 deadline fast approaching, I encourage every eligible family to take advantage and submit their application or renewal. Don't miss this opportunity — get your application in before March 31!"

More than 23,000 students have benefited through the state program, and Ivey said even more families will be eligible due to a budget increase for the state's education savings account program. The CHOOSE Act funds may be used for school tuition, tutoring, educational therapies and other qualified education expenses.

Eligible students enrolled in a participating school may receive $7,000, and students enrolled in a home education program may receive $2,000, with a maximum of $4,000 per family.

Income limits still apply, but those will be removed for the 2027-28 school year, subject to available funds.

Applications can be submitted online. Applications will be accepted until midnight on March 31.

Award notifications will be sent to eligible students on April 15. Verification of participating school enrollment must be submitted by June 30, 2026, for funding beginning on July 1, 2026.
