A new maternity home will soon be available in Chilton County for expectant mothers in need.
Care Net of Chilton County already offers Christian-based services such as free ultrasounds and resources for those facing one of life's biggest decisions. But the new maternity home, Selah's Oasis House of Hope Restoration and New Beginnings, will be open to mothers with nowhere else to turn.
Executive Director Ashley Liveoak said the center would serve mothers in central Alabama. She said the name "Selah" was given by God. It came from the book of Psalms and meant to "rest, pause, contemplate or to reset."
"An Oasis is a fertile spot in the desert where water can be found," Care Net of Chilton County posted on Facebook. "Many women facing unplanned pregnancy find themselves wandering in the desert and they need to rest or have a reset in their lives when they find themselves in a crisis pregnancy."
"It will provide a place of refuge, hope, and a fertile ground to move towards Christ while they continue in their pregnancy," Liveoak said.
The eight-room facility will also have two guest rooms for young women aging out of foster care. There will also be a house mom and activities for children.
Selah's Oasis will also require life skill training and offer Bible study, group counseling, job training and education.
The organization is asking for donations of funds, supplies and clothing to help continue its mission. Find out more about how to donate at https://bit.ly/3LX6DSo. Care Net of Chilton County, Inc. is a 501 C (3).
The home is expected to open on October 1.
