MOBILE — Conecuh Sausage is an Alabama staple that is becoming known throughout the United States.
Judy’s Place restaurant is a Mobile staple that daily attracts retirees and working folk for lunch or dinner.
The two have combined to produce a "Conecuh Sausage Burger."
Does it sound like it would be just grilled sausage on a bun? Well, that’s not it. The burger uses a blend of Angus beef and Conecuh Sausage, together with spices. The resulting meat looks more like hamburger meat than sausage.
Add lettuce, tomato, pickles and optional onions. Anything that would go on a beef burger.
What you end up with is a hamburger that has a distinct taste of Conecuh Sausage.
1819 News was on the scene Monday and tried one. The half-pounder was consumed in record time. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Many burger lovers (normal beef burgers) like them medium rare or rare. The same diners like their Conecuh Sausage medium well or well-done. So how do you cook it when you blend beef and Conecuh? The beef seemed to determine that point, and the burger was medium rare. It worked.
The Conecuh Burger comes with one side – anything from french fries to a vegetable.
There was already a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” named in a hit song by Mobile’s Jimmy Buffett. The new Conecuh Burger will likely be named just that – Conecuh Burger. No further explanation needed.
Judy’s has also developed a patti melt using the Conecuh/beef blend. The Conecuh Patti Melt.
Judy’s Place is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It also has TVs for sports watching.
Conecuh Sausage is made in Evergreen in their plant just off Interstate 65. There is a Conecuh Outlet store and shop there.
