The Alabama Republican Party's (ALGOP) winter dinner is being relocated to a bigger venue to accommodate the growing number of people wanting to meet Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Two weeks ago, ALGOP announced DeSantis as the keynote speaker at the annual winter dinner on March 9.

According to a statement from ALGOP, the original venue was on track to sell out less than two weeks after ticket sales opened.

The dinner has been moved from the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel to the nearby Finley Center in Hoover to accommodate a larger crowd.

"We have been blown away by the response we've received since announcing this year's Winter Dinner, and I am extremely excited we have been able to find a way to include more guests for this historic event," said ALGOP chairman John Wahl. "We want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to hear Governor DeSantis's common sense conservative message and be a part of his visit to Alabama."

Despite a temporary halt in ticket sales, they are currently available on a first-come, first-serve basis on the ALGOP website.

Desantis' popularity has risen over the last two years for his lax COVID-19 policies and stance on several cultural issues.

While not a declared candidate, DeSantis is seen by many as a potential favorite for the 2024 presidential race and the only legitimate threat to the candidacy of former President Donald Trump.
