A popular conservative commentator called out Gov. Kay Ivey for blaming unvaccinated individuals in 2021 for a spike in COVID-19 cases after a report claimed the government hid data on COVID cases among the vaccinated.

On Monday, senior editor at The Blaze and host of the "Conservative Review" podcast Daniel Horowitz described Ivey as a "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) on Twitter while sharing a report from the Epoch Times accusing the CDC and FDA of hiding data on COVID cases among vaccinated individuals in 2021.

"Remember when RINOs like [Ivey] asserted that 99% of hospitalizations were from unvaxxed?" Horowitz asked, citing another article from 2021 detailing the governor's comments. "Well, at that same time our gov't was sitting on data showing the vaxxed represented 63% of covid patients among seniors."

"Folks are supposed to have common sense," Ivey said in July 2021 as COVID-19 cases were rising in Alabama and across the country. "But it's time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the vaccinated folks."

Alabama totaled over 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in the two weeks leading up to the governor's comments, while over 70% of Alabamians chose to remain unvaccinated.

According to the Epoch report, the U.S. military contracted Humetrix Cloud Services to analyze vaccine data in 2021. The company found that the proportion of total COVID-19 cases among elderly people was increasingly made up of vaccinated individuals.

During the week of July 31, 2021, the vaccinated comprised 73% of the cases among individuals 65 or older. Infection rates were higher among individuals who were vaccinated five to six months prior than compared to people who were vaccinated three to four months prior.

The report also found that protection against hospitalization had dropped to 57%, with 63% of the hospitalizations due to COVID-19 among seniors being fully vaccinated, and that seniors who previously recovered from COVID-19 were more likely to avoid hospitalization.

The Epoch Times cited an email from Humetrix president and CEO Dr. Bettina Experton to FDA officials in September 2021, notifying them of the decrease in vaccine effectiveness against hospitalization.

Experton also admitted to sharing the data with the CDC in August of that year. Yet, neither the FDA nor the CDC disclosed the data to the public.
