The Caroleene Dobson campaign weighed in on an investigation into the actions of Mobile's leadership leading up to the firing of police chief Paul Prine.
Dobson's team told 1819 News that the Republican nominee for the Second Congressional District supports the police department and its officers.
"Caroleene Dobson is committed to fighting the epidemic of crime and violence that is affecting so many communities in the Second Congressional District," the campaign stated. "While Shomari Figures and the Washington, D.C. insiders running his campaign ignore public safety, our law enforcement officers are risking their lives to provide every Alabamian the sense of security they deserve."
"The men and women of the Mobile Police Department have Caroleene Dobson's full support and she will work to ensure officers have the resources necessary to keep our homes, neighborhoods, towns, and cities safe from crime," spokesman Drew Dickson continued.
Figures, the Democratic nominee, has not responded to media inquiries concerning the back-and-forth between the city administration and Prine.
Dobson has been touring the district, addressing issues she believes should be a priority. The district includes the cities of Mobile and Montgomery, where crime has been a recent topic of concern for residents. During a recent appearance at the Capital City Republican Women's meeting, she told constituents that law enforcement needs support.
The Mobile City Council hired an independent firm out of Birmingham to investigate claims Prine made alleging the appearance of improprieties concerning an agreement between the city and 321z Insights LLC, the chain of command at Gulf Coast Technology and grievances filed by Prine before he was placed on administrative leave.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson said he also passed on the allegations to the Attorney General's Office for investigation.
