A deadly storm system that caused damage and deaths in other states dumped massive amounts of rain in Alabama late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
Multiple tornado warnings were issued Tuesday evening in several counties. Some damage reports across the state include roof damage in Toxey, hail damage in Tuscaloosa, and damage in Hale County. Although no injuries were reported, first responders were on the scene of people trapped in a building in Hale County.
The same storm system spawned a tornado in New Orleans, where one person was killed and thousands of homes were without power. A 73-year-old woman was also killed in Sherwood Shores, Texas.
Early Wednesday, the focus was on widespread flooding across Alabama, as some areas saw more than six inches of rainfall in under 12 hours.
In Jefferson County, rescuers had to respond to multiple vehicles stuck in floodwaters in the areas of Homewood, Hoover, and Pinson. No injuries were reported in those incidents.
In Talladega County, there were multiple reports of impassable roads due to flooding, as well as water rescues in Sylacauga.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham warned there could be more flooding as waters continue to wash downstream Wednesday. The message is: Turn Around, Don't Drown!
