His grandfather, lead pastor of Oasis of Praise Church Allan Kendrick, told his congregation Sunday that he and his wife, Gay Kendrick, were sitting with Brandon Kendrick 10 minutes before the shooting. He said they talked about taking Brandon to a restaurant for the first time when he was 13 years old. Up until that point, Kendrick said his childhood was full of physical, sexual, mental and drug abuse.

Allan Kendrick said they talked until Brandon’s wife returned home. She also talked with the couple, and then they went to their nearby home.

“He got up, 10 minutes later, ‘Pow,’” Allan Kendrick told the congregation. “I told Gay, I said, ‘That was a gunshot.’ She said, ‘Yeah it was.’ She was sitting on her little sofa here and she got up. I didn’t have my shoes on, so I’m putting my shoes on.”

“He walked in our bedroom with a gun in his hand,” Kendrick continued. “She was closest to him; she grabbed the gun. It went off, I don’t know how it kept from hitting her. Yeah, I do. Yeah, I know, because our prayer team that night, about an hour before this incident, our prayer team stood right here and prayed for my and Gay’s safety because I had reached out to them.”

Allan Kendrick said after the gun went off in his bedroom, he was able to subdue Brandon Kendrick. He said after the incident, Brandon Kendrick did not have any recollection of the shooting.

The pastor told his congregation that those who reject God’s word are a candidate for the devil to steal, kill and destroy.

“I have seen the results of people that reject God,” Allan Kendrick said. “I have seen the tragedies that take place in their life. I’ve watched people in my personal life, my family, and also in this church of believers. I have watched people hear instructions and be told the things that God has revealed to us. They’ve heard the message of the cross, they’ve heard the message of faith, they’ve heard about the victories that God will give but they continue to reject. They continue to ignore. They continue to think they’ve got plenty of time.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for funeral expenses. Oasis of Praise shared the link online.
