The House Freedom Fund (HFF), the political arm of the House Freedom Caucus, has endorsed Casey Wardynski for Congress for Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District.
“We’re honored that Casey has earned the endorsement of the House Freedom Fund. Congressmen ... in the Freedom Caucus need conservative fighters to work with them in the House, and they know that Casey Wardynski is the only candidate in this race that will stand with them and further an America First agenda,” said Wardynski’s campaign manager Chad Niblett. “The Freedom Fund endorsement is highly sought after, and we’re glad that after thoroughly vetting the AL-5 field, they recognized Casey Wardynski as the true conservative in the race. They were impressed by Casey’s record of getting CRT out of West Point, helping President Trump build the border wall and never putting a woke agenda ahead of our nation. Our team is looking forward to a victory on May 24.”
Congressman Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania) is the Chairman of the House Freedom Fund Caucus.
Perry said in a statement, “Some groups offer candidates token support, but HFF is different. HFF provides candidates with substantial resources to help them win.”
Wardynski is listed as a “priority candidate” on the site’s donation page.
The HFF announced their endorsement in an email Friday, after Congressman Jim Jordan, the Freedom Caucus founder, appeared on WVNN radio’s The Yaffee Program alongside Wardynski.
The House Freedom Caucus was dubbed “Trump’s Main Defender” during the impeachment hearings.
The House Freedom Caucus rose to prominence as a rebellious band of about three dozen Republican lawmakers who believed the GOP leadership, then led by Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) were too moderate. Mo Brooks was a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus and one of its most outspoken members. During the Trump Administration, the House Freedom Caucus became President Trump’s de facto defense team in the partisan impeachment investigations on Capitol Hill. Reps. Gary Palmer (AL-06) and Barry Moore (AL-02) are also members of the House Freedom Caucus.
Wardysnki is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, a former Assistant Secretary of the Army appointed by President Trump, a former Huntsville City Schools Superintendent, and a former corporate executive.
Fifth Congressional District incumbent Congressman Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) is not seeking re-election as he is running for the U.S. Senate.
Andy Blalock, John Roberts, Paul Sanford, Dale Strong, Wardynski, and Harrison Wright are all running in the May 24 Republican primary for the Fifth Congressional District. The winner of the GOP primary will face the winner of the Alabama Democratic primary in the Nov. 8 general election.
