Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith is facing additional theft charges following his arrest last week for allegedly shoplifting from a Walmart.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reported on Tuesday that Keith had been issued three more misdemeanor theft charges alleging he stole other items from Wal-Mart stores.

Huntsville Police Department (HPD) investigated the case, but MCSO is handling the arrest warrants, an MCSO spokesman told WHNT.

Keith was arrested last week for allegedly shoplifting from the Walmart near University Drive in Huntsville. The Huntsville Police Department charged him with fourth-degree theft of property. Keith said his shoplifting arrest was due to failure to pay for a $20 pair of headphones at self-checkout.

"I can't express how grateful I am to have family, friends, and loved ones that have supported me, but I have to be accountable," Devyn wrote on Facebook following the initial charges. "No one is above the law, and as someone who works for and aspires to devotedly represent the best of the people of Huntsville, I can't make these type of mistakes. I know I am better than this."

Keith has been a council member since 2016, representing District 1.
