Leigh Dollar has been reelected as mayor of Guntersville after winning Tuesday's runoff election against challenger Jeff McLaughlin.

After tying in the August municipal election, Dollar defeated McLaughlin, a former Democratic member of the State House of Representatives, in the runoff by a wide margin.

The final, unofficial vote count Tuesday was 1,710 to 1,221, compared to 1,065 each in August.

“I want to thank all my supporters for showing up!” Dollar told 1819 News. “It shows every vote counts!”

A 13-year incumbent, Dollar received a late endorsement from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), while some voters expressed concern with McLaughlin’s Democratic record and his donations to Hillary Clinton and other Democratic candidates.
