Mark Yeager, founder and CEO of Red Land Cotton in Moulton, appeared Tuesday on Fox News Channel's “America Reports” to express his favorable view on President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

Trump has proclaimed Wednesday, April 2, “Liberation Day.” The President plans to implement more tariff policies on foreign goods to "liberate" the United States from its dependence on them and set the path for increased American goods manufacturing.

“I think tariffs could help,” Yeager told Fox.

“I think we've got nothing to lose by trying them, especially in textiles," he added. "If you look at the rates that it would cost us to send our product to China, to India, it's astronomical. I think it could help. I think it could supercharge our industry, more mills in the supply chain, more finishers, the whole thing, and make something like this a whole lot more feasible.”

Yeager’s fresh perspective on how tariffs could benefit the textile industry is the opposite of the reports that these policies will launch a trade war, forcing Americans to take on increased costs for goods and services. As 1819 News reported, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is also on board with Trump’s tariff agenda, deeming it “the last, best hope of saving the country.”

According to a 2023 report by the U.S. International Trade Commission, the United States is the largest single-country apparel importer in the world, with imports totaling $79.3 billion in 2023 alone.

In 1994, when cotton farms in Alabama had significantly waned, Yeager built a cotton gin and produced his own textiles.

Yeager launched Red Land Cotton in 2016 and began producing heirloom sheets and bedding. Yeager spoke with "Fox & Friends" in December and says he farms roughly 5,500 of cotton and maintains textile factories in Alabama and Mississippi to produce the cotton and finish the bedding product.
