Former Auburn golfer Jackson Koivun capped his amateur career with a final score of 5-over par at the 126th U.S. Open on Sunday, sharing the lowest amateur score in the event and finishing tied for 23rd place overall.

Koivun shared low amateur honors with Oklahoma’s Ryder Cowan.

The Chapel Hill, N.C. native fired rounds of 72, 71, 74, and 68 to make his first career cut at a major championship. As one of five amateurs to play the weekend, it was Koivun’s eighth cut in 10 starts.

Koivun tallied a 32 on the front nine of the final round, firing a trio of birdies on holes three, four and five. With two bogeys on the day, he sank a birdie putt on 18 to finish 2-under. It marked the lowest concluding round by an amateur at the U.S. Open since Viktor Hovland shot 67 (-4) in 2019.

Koivun will take a week off before making his first professional start at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., beginning on July 2.
