The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection to a murder in Harvest Thursday.
Kyle Hayden Lewter, 36, is charged in the death of Derek Franklin Walls, 54.
Walls was found in a home at 1790 Capshaw Road.
“It appears that there was a physical altercation between both individuals who were known to each other, which ultimately resulted in the death of Mr. Walls,” the sheriff’s office stated in a press release.
Lewter is charged with murder and is being held in jail without bond in accordance with Aniah’s Law.
Lewter is well-known among political circles, particularly within the Republican Party.
According to court documents, he was arrested last year for DUI and driving on the wrong side of a highway in downtown Huntsville. He did community service and drug screens, and in exchange, the case was dismissed and court fees were waived.
Lewter is considered innocent of the murder charge until proven guilty.
