As the possibility of a third indictment looms against former President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) continues railing against efforts to stop Trump from running in the 2024 presidential election.

On Tuesday, Trump posted to his Truth Social account, claiming he had received a letter from Smith that informed Trump he was the subject of a grand jury investigation for his role in the January 6 riots that ensued while Congress attempted to certify the 2020 election.

Trump is facing federal charges for allegedly mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. He is also facing criminal charges in New York for his role in allegedly paying hush money to a porn star who claims to have had an affair with Trump.

Several of Alabama's federal delegation condemned the indictment, including Tuberville, who has continually supported the former president since taking office.

On Thursday, Newsmax contributor Dick Morris suggested Congress shut down business until the "political persecution" of Donald Trump ends.

"I am urging citizens to call Congress today — demand their House of representatives and Senators pass no bills, authorize no money, approve no more Biden nominations, do nothing, and block everything — until the Biden administration stops their politicization of justice," Morris wrote.

When asked if he agreed with Morris, Tuberville said he didn't think Congress should shut down. However, he agreed that the federal indictment and looming threat of an indictment surrounding January 6 is an attempt to affect the outcome of the 2024 election.

"They're going to go after President Trump from every angle," Tuberville said. "They, the Democrats, cannot afford him to get back reelected because he would throw a stick into their engine, and it would stop it. I mean, it is awful what they're doing to the president and his family. Look at what's going on with the president we have right now. This country is in such disarray because the Democrats want it their way, and they think it's the only way to do business.

He continued, "Let him run. Give him an opportunity to run one more time. Let him run against whoever. I don't think it will be Joe Biden. It will be somebody else. But I agree with Dick Morris, this has become just amazing to watch how they just despise a guy that loves this country, in President Donald Trump. When their group wants to change this country into something that it's not."
