It can be difficult for Republicans to understand the left’s obsession with forcing inappropriate ideas on young children, whether it’s drag shows, transgender treatments or graphic LGTBQ+ books in libraries. However, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) recently offered a theory that has sent Democrats and liberal media outlets into a meltdown.

“I’ve traveled all over the country — all 50 states. I’ve been in good places and bad places. The one thing I saw, we are losing our kids to a satanic cult,” the former Auburn football coach said at a campaign event in Utah for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Trent Staggs.

Tuberville lamented the loss of “moral values across the country” and called for a return to the Constitution and founding biblical principles.

“We’ve got to get God back in our country,” he said. “There’s not one Democrat that can tell you they stand up for God… They’ve basically taken God out of everything that we’re doing. I don’t know any other way to express it other than that it’s some kind of cult that they’re trying to push on our kids and all Americans.”

Tuberville’s cult comparison drew many derisive reactions from the left.

“The Tommy Tuberville Road Show is making an impression. Not one that’s good for anybody, but an impression,” Kyle Whitmire, a writer for the left-wing outlet AL(dot)com, posted on X.

Joyce Alene, former United States attorney and current law professor at the University of Alabama, said, “One thing about Trump: he always tells us who he is. It's important to share this and encourage people to listen. Today my Senator equated Democrats with godlessness & satan. Jan 6 may end up looking like it was a mere tourist trip if this keeps up.”

Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook), who ran a losing campaign against Tuberville in 2020, didn’t mince words in his response: “More moronic statements from Tuberville. Take a minute and read the latest BS from this guy coming right after he said Katie Britt was picked for the SOTU because she is a housewife. Appropriate for him that he is holding the Constitution upside down.”

Tuberville hit back at Jones, saying: “PLEASE read it. I mean every word. #MAGA”
