U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is warning of another world war after learning Iran has been ramping up its nuclear program at the same time U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was secretly hospitalized.

"We're on the brink of WW3," Tuberville posted to X on Monday. "Brought to you by the [Biden] Administration that released sanctions on Iran and then sent them $6 billion...while [Austin] is unknowingly in the ICU."

Tuberville referred to a recent report by the New York Times, which said Iran's nuclear program had been "put on steroids."

"Though little discussed by the Biden administration, the Iranian nuclear program has suddenly been put on steroids. International inspectors announced in late December that Iran initiated a threefold increase in its enrichment of near-bomb-grade uranium," the Times wrote in an excerpt shared by Tuberville. "By most rough estimates, Iran now has the fuel for at least three atomic weapons — and American intelligence officials believe the additional enrichment needed to turn that fuel into bomb-grade material would take only a few weeks."

According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon said Austin was admitted to intensive care on January 1 after experiencing "severe pain" following a medical procedure on December 22. President Joe Biden and other top officials were not notified of Austin's condition or that he had been hospitalized until days later, on January 4. Several lawmakers have since called for Austin's resignation and the termination of his staff for failing to immediately report his medical scare.
