In 2018, London-based entertainment company TVG Hospitality began working with the City of Huntsville to construct a new $40 million 8,000-seat music venue, The Orion, which opened in May 2022.

Now, TVG has acquired another popular Alabama music venue, this time in Birmingham: Saturn.

Located in the Avondale community of Birmingham, right across from Avondale Brewing Co., Saturn opened in 2015 and has since welcomed both national and local acts to its intimate 500-person concert space.

Ryan Murphy is the managing director for the Hunstville Venue Group (HVG), the subsidiary of TVG that oversees the Orion Amphitheater. Murphy told Pollstar that Saturn had become a “must play” location in Alabama and praised the venue for its promotion of the underground music scene in the state.

A member of the Saturn team, Brian Teasley, joined HVG as its Senior Operations Manager. He and several other TGV officials discussed the acquisition at the Pollstar Live Conference, which began on Tuesday.

TVG CEO Ben Lovett said that the company would also help develop Saturn’s connected coffee shop and bar, Satellite. Satellite operates year-round, offering all-day coffee and pastries from Birmingham’s Domestique Coffee Roasters.
