The Biden administration's new Title IX rules recognizing "gender identity" went into effect August 1 nationwide except for Alabama and a handful of other states that could attain a court injunction. While students may be safe from the changes, for now, the legal and cultural battle is far from over.
To help equip parents in the fight and educate them on what their children may soon be facing, Moms for Liberty-Alabama and LOCAL Alabama are holding a Title IX townhall in Guntersville on August 12 with several guest speakers, including Attorney General Steve Marshall, State Rep. Susan DuBose (R-Hoover), Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth and Alliance Defending Freedom counsel Sara Beth Nolan.
"The upcoming Title IX town hall is more important than ever as we work through the legal aspect of a state-level injunction. We have a great lineup of panelists ready to provide updates on the situation as well as actions parents can take to fight back," said Emily Jones, founder and chair of Madison Moms for Liberty.
On Tuesday, Judge Annemarie Carney Axon of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama ruled Biden's Title IX changes could go into effect Thursday as planned. However, thanks to the efforts of AG Marshall, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals granted Alabama a last-minute injunction on Wednesday.
"We were surprised to learn of the ruling by Judge Annemarie Carney Axon," LOCAL founder Allison Sinclair told 1819 News. "It's almost unfathomable that a woman in the position to protect other women and young girls from mental, emotional and physical abuse would choose not to. Luckily, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals chose to see the error of her opinion and grant us a stay."
She continued, "But the Biden administration's effort to destroy Title IX and what women have worked for years to establish is far from over. Parents need to engage their elected officials on every level and let them know we fully expect them to protect our boys and girls and to not comply with the Biden administration's Title IX policies should they ever take effect."
Jones said one simple way parents can get involved is by becoming members of Moms for Liberty, thanks to a court ruling in Kansas. Regardless, she said everyone can benefit from attending the town hall, which could be even bigger than the one held in July in Birmingham.
"Through the Kansas District Court ruling, schools with Moms for Liberty members cannot implement these changes," she said. "This is a critical time for parents to really understand what these changes mean to our public schools and what actions they can take to protect their children. The town hall will include updates as well as arm parents with resources going forward. Parents need to be ready to stand up and protect their children regardless of the outcome of the pending court case, and this town hall will prepare them for what comes next."
