Alabama’s own U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) was recently featured in the New York Times (NYT) article, speculating that she was on a relatively long list of possible candidates for president after the term-limited Donald Trump leaves office.

The piece was admittedly speculative, listing prominent governors, senators, House members, media figures, and other politicians in Trump’s orbit.

The NYT mentioned Britt alongside other prominent Republican senators, including Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.). However, Britt’s face was the center of the piece’s headline, and the piece noted that she was “well liked by Mr. Trump and the party’s donors.”

It was speculated earlier this year, after a CNN report, that Trump and Britt were at odds, allegedly due to the senator’s criticism of a social media post Trump had made and then deleted. Britt’s team shot down those claims.

Regardless of any perceived tiff, Britt was recently seen standing behind Trump during a bill signing, exchanging pleasantries.

“I hope she always remains loyal to me so I can continue to support her,” Trump said.

“You’ve got it,” Britt replied.

“I would hate to go against her. That will never happen, Katie, right?” the president asked.

“That’s right, sir,” she responded.
