‘Promises kept’ — Britt applauds ICE arrests on day two of Trump presidency

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) praised U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday for swiftly getting to work rounding up violent illegal aliens just 24 hours after President Donald Trump was sworn into office.

Trump wasted no time in his first hours as president, signing a slew of executive orders related to the Southern border. In addition to declaring a state of emergency at the border, Trump also ended the use of a border app called "CBP One," which previously allowed migrants to enter the U.S. legally. He also removed several DOJ judges responsible for adjudicating the nation's immigration court, and he declared Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations.

While the corporate media used images at the border and stories of turned-away migrants at the border, others were quick to applaud the border actions as promises kept by the president made during his campaign.

Another Trump immigration move came after acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary (DHS) Benjamine Huffmanre removed a rule that barred ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents from arresting suspects in so-called sensitive areas, which include schools, places of worship, hospitals, funerals, weddings and public demonstrations.

"This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens—including murders and rapists—who have illegally come into our country," a DHS statement read. "Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America's schools and churches to avoid arrest. The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense."

"The Biden-Harris Administration abused the humanitarian parole program to indiscriminately allow 1.5 million migrants to enter our country. This was all stopped on day one of the Trump Administration. This action will return the humanitarian parole program to its original purpose of looking at migrants on a case-by-case basis."

In an X post, Britt congratulated ICE for making 308 arrests on Tuesday alone, which allegedly included "several murderers, rapists, sex offenders, and kidnappers." She also claimed ICE had ordered nearly 300 illegal aliens to be remanded into their custody from multiple jails.
