Hospitality, community and a personal experience are always served up at Provision Fairhope and its Montrose satellite Provision on the Fly.

Whether you choose the "Honey Bee Latte" or you're "Hawaiian Daydreaming," the local offerings come from a passion for offering Southern Hospitality.

Meanwhile, at Starbucks, tall is small, and convenience and speed are key. There are plenty of options to choose from, all with the ease of an app.

When the latest Starbucks opened in Fairhope, people began approaching Provision owners William and Elisabeth Hanes and asking them if they were worried. They responded with a banner plane and a message.

"To be honest, I think David is greater than Goliath," said William Hanes in an Instagram video. "It's only natural to fear big corporations negatively impacting our quaint town, but I am confident that we will continue supporting local businesses, whether ours or others."

Hanes encouraged residents to "give Goliath a try" in exchange for a free drink from Provision.

"It's only natural to want to check out the new place in town, and we encourage you to do so," Hanes said. "We just ask that you bring in your receipt from the Starbucks and Daphne or Fairhope, and we'll give you a free drink."

Provision asked customers to share and compare on social media.

The banner plane idea came naturally, Hanes told 1819 News.

"We've flown the plane before, like on back to school day we flew it," he said. "Obviously, not with the same message, but I think it's fun because it feels very local, and it reminds me of going to the beach growing up and seeing the planes with the flags flying behind them."

The plane was flown over Highway 98 from Fairhope to Daphne.
