U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama Prim F. Escalona announced the sentencing of a man involved in a road rage incident. David Lee Hooker, 53, was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Hooker pleaded guilty to pulling a firearm on another driver in Jefferson County. Hooker was sitting at a traffic light and didn't move through two cycles of green lights. The driver behind him honked, triggering road rage. Hooker pulled forward but then pointed a firearm at the second driver.

Hooker then followed the other driver to a parking lot, where he got out of the car with the gun and approached the vehicle. A Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Task Force officer intervened and arrested Hooker.

"This sentence sends a clear message that violent and reckless behavior on our roads will not be tolerated," Escalona said. "We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold accountable those who threaten the safety of our communities and endanger innocent lives."

The sheriff's office and the FBI investigated the case.

"The safety of our communities is a priority," said special agent in charge Carlton Peeples, Birmingham Division. "The strong collaboration between FBI Birmingham and our state and local law enforcement partners works as a force multiplier to remove violent offenders from the communities we protect and serve."
