CULLMAN — At the Cullman County Republican Party's annual dinner Thursday night, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen touted the recent arrests made in connection to voter fraud and also detailed his office's efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking.

It was a packed house at the Venue at Cotton Creek when Allen, along with many other state and local officials, made his remarks.

Allen said there had been three recent arrests, one in Chambers County and two in Phenix City, for alleged absentee ballot fraud.

"Election integrity is a top priority. We're not going to tolerate those individuals that want to manipulate and steal elections," he said. "We're very proud of what we've been able to do with election integrity efforts all throughout our office, and it takes a team."

In addition to securing elections, Allen, who is currently running for state lieutenant governor, said he wanted to make the state safer for children and other potential human trafficking victims. That's why his office has partnered with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency in launching the new Alabama Combats Trafficking program to engage small businesses and retailers in raising awareness and recognizing the signs of human trafficking.

"We want to engage with businesses around the state to bring awareness to the issue of these heinous crimes that take place in human trafficking in the state of Alabama," he said. "…We want to engage and bring awareness."

Businesses can sign up to be a part of the program at the Secretary of State's website.
