Secretary of State Wes Allen addressed the United States Senate's Committee on Rules & Administration on Tuesday to discuss election integrity and administration.

Allen answered a question by U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) about voting issues with more illegal immigrants crossing the border attributed to Biden administration policies.

"The simple answer is that we do not have anything at our disposal to verify citizenship," said Allen. "Back in December, we asked the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services for a list of noncitizens so we could cross-check our voter file in Alabama. We were denied that list from the federal government."

The secretary said the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (ICE) referred them to a list of noncitizens. However, the list was the Systematic Alien Verification Entitlements (SAVE) program, which Allen says states is not to be used to verify citizenship for voter registration.

"The federal government and the federal courts have blocked previous efforts by states to verify citizenship and I think that it is important now more than ever, especially given what is happening at our southern border," Allen continued.
