Update: Gulf Shores Police believe the shooting happened outside of The Hangout, near the entrance of Gulf Place.

GULF SHORES — Gulf Shores police are on the scene of a shooting that took place Monday night outside The Hangout on Beach Boulevard.

Multiple agencies including the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue, and the Orange Beach Police Department responded to the popular location, which was packed with spring breakers. The roads around the restaurant have been shut down while police assess the scene.

One witness claimed a male suspect pulled a gun and began firing after a fight broke out.

"I looked back and there was like a fight going on with a bunch of girls, and then next thing I know a guy pulls a gun and fires six rounds," Katie Shaw told 1819 News. "... He was right beside me. The gun was right at me."

Gulf Shores public information officer Nick Corcoran confirmed there is an active investigation into the shooting and the suspect, a 22-year-old male, is in custody.

"The shooting occurred during a physical altercation between several subjects," police said in a statement. "The parties involved appear to be a mixture of juveniles and adults."

One person, a juvenile, was injured and was taken to a hospital. The victim was in stable condition.
