Micah Messer, a law enforcement officer and business owner from Smiths Station, has officially declared his candidacy for the now-vacant seat in the Alabama House of Representatives 38th district.
The seat became vacant after now-former State Rep. Debbie Wood (R-Valley) announced her surprise departure from the House to join her husband, who had begun working in Pensacola, Fla., since January.
While the special election date has yet to be announced, Messer announced his candidacy on Wednesday. A lifelong Alabamian, Messer is a member of the Alabama National Guard, a law enforcement officer and owner of two small businesses.
His announcement came in tandem with a declared platform of “transparency, accountability, and common-sense governance.” His priorities include stopping government waste, election integrity, lowering taxes and fighting crime by ensuring law enforcement has the training and resources it needs. He also strongly opposes the expansion of casino interests into District 38 and “stands firmly for family values.”
In a bold move, Messer included his number in the campaign announcement, asking residents of District 38 to contact him directly at (334) 219-0321 to share their concerns and ideas.
“District 38 is my home, and I want it to continue to be a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family,” Messer said. “The people of this district deserve a representative who reflects their values and work ethic—from farmers and industrial workers to firefighters and teachers.”
He continued, “I would be honored to serve the people of District 38 and am deeply thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to run.”
