HUNTSVILLE — Former U.S. Rep. Mo. Brooks sharply criticized State Rep. James Lomax's (R-Huntsville) alleged ties to special interests and political action committees at the Madison County Republican Men's Club monthly meeting on Saturday.
Brooks, who is facing off against Lomax in Alabama's upcoming House District 20 election, said he reviewed Lomax's campaign contributions before deciding to enter the race.
"I looked at the Secretary of State's office. I was disheartened to discover that $330,000 plus of his campaign contributions since 2021 have been from special interest political action committees, and only 1.8% came from people he claims that he represents," noted Brooks. "That's just not the kind of ratio you want for someone who is running for public office, who is supposed to be voting for the public interest, not the special interest."

Brooks also accused Lomax of backing legislation benefiting illegal aliens at the expense of students in Alabama.
"Probably the one vote where we disagree on the most is House Bill 210 from 2024," Brooks stated. "It is a bill that diverts Education Trust dollars from our kids to help subsidize the college education costs of illegal aliens, for citizens of foreign countries. That's not something that I can stomach. That's not something that represents the views of conservatives that we have down in Montgomery. You put those things together, and that contributed greatly to my getting into the race."
According to Brooks, Lomax represents special interests, not citizens in HD 20.
"I want someone who represents the citizens, not the special interest political action committees. I should add, in that vein, $35,000 from the liberal teachers union going to my opponent, that's not a good sign. Over $10,000 from the trial lawyers is going to my opponent. Roughly $115,000 going to my opponent from special interests that either prefer open borders or want to hire cheap foreign labor."
Added Brooks, "That's not a good sign."
