In a Tuesday appearance on Newsmax's "National Report," U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) discussed legislation she is introducing with U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) to create more affordable and available child care in the United States.

Britt, who described herself as "a mama on a mission," said that driving down the cost of child care and driving up the optionality for parents was important. She added that the GOP was the party of families and hard-working Americans, so her legislation would incentivize parents to enter the workforce and be able to afford the necessary child care to work.

"These are things that I dealt with in my own personal life, trying to figure out how to get both of my children into the same childcare facility and then writing that check," Britt told Newsmax, comparing the cost to college tuition.

"We've got to figure out how to tackle this," she continued. "I mean, our economy loses about $122 billion a year because of this issue, accessibility and affordability of child care. We've got to figure out how to reinvigorate this, how to allow parents to have choices, how to drive down costs, and at the same time, we're driving up optionality."

"This is something that we've got to continue to move forward," Britt added.
