On Sunday, Auburn head basketball coach Bruce Pearl praised former President Donald Trump's courage after the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee's assassination attempt while also taking a shot at the media and Department of Justice for being "complicit" in the political violence.

According to Pearl, Trump raising a fist just moments after being shot "tells you he is willing to take a bullet and fight for this country."

"Thank God President Trump survived this assassination attempt," Pearl wrote on Twitter. "His courageous reaction moments after getting shot tells you he is willing to take a bullet and fight for this country. Political violence has been tolerated, the media, Justice Dept, others are complicit."

Hours later, Pearl reacted to The New Republic's "American Fascism" series in which the magazine compared Trump to Adolf Hitler just a week before, saying the United States was "better than this."

"This is going too far!" Pearl said of the comparison. "A discussion of differences in policy and direction a President wants to take the country is important, but to suggest Trump in 2024 is Hitler in 1932? Let's all take a timeout! We are the greatest country in the world and we are all better than this!"
