U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) dropped his objection to Lt. Gen. Ronald Clark's nomination to four-star general on Tuesday.
Tuberville previously blocked the promotion over concerns about Clark's role in Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's hospitalization not being immediately disclosed.
Austin was secretly hospitalized in January for complications from prostate surgery.
Clark is President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead Army forces in the Pacific.
Tuberville met with Clark to “clear the air” on Tuesday before a Senate vote confirming his promotion, according to POLITICO.
“After a detailed discussion, Sen. Tuberville dropped his hold,” Mallory Jaspers, Tuberville’s spokeswoman, said Wednesday in a statement to the outlet. “While there were certainly failures elsewhere, the senator is confident that Lt. Gen. Clark more than fulfilled his duties during the secretary’s hospitalization.”
