After two failed assassination plots against former President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is confident Trump's enemies and the "deep state" will try again before the November election.

“Our country is leaking oil. There’s nothing going on right in our country, from crime, inflation, the border, foreign wars — you name it, it’s going wrong. They’re trying to kill the only guy that has a chance to get this fixed,” Tuberville said Monday on Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow.”

He referred to an incident Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla., where Trump's Secret Service detail opened fire on a suspect, later identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, who was aiming a rifle through a nearby fence.

“I don’t know who’s running our country, but somebody needs to step to the plate and at least act like you care about a Republican candidate, but they truly don’t. They could care less," the former Auburn football coach said.

Tuberville said Trump came within a half-inch of losing his life during a Pennsylvania rally in July, and he narrowly avoided an ambush Sunday by “a minute or two.”

With Trump continuing to poll well following last week's debate against his Democrat opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, Tuberville said more attempts on Trump's life are almost inevitable.

“Something is going to happen before the election. You can see it coming. They [Democrats] know they’re losing,” he said.

“They’re going to do everything they possibly can to keep him out of office. Look at all the things they’ve already done. None of them have worked… He is the only one who has the opportunity and the guts to get something done to save this country from a disaster that’s happened every day here in Washington, D.C. and all over the country.”

Tubverville said, given America's high rate of mental illness, Trump's enemies are "counting on" something to happen "naturally."

“We get death threats up here all the time, but the death threats Donald Trump gets are real because they cannot allow him … the deep state cannot allow him to win this election,” Tuberville added. “Yes, I do believe they’re going to try again. They’re going to try again and again until something happens, and that’s the reason we have to have people around him protecting him more and more every day.”
