Due to President Joe Biden's many public gaffes and a special counsel report calling him an "elderly man with a poor memory," people on both sides of the political aisle are growing concerned about his mental capacity.

At 81, some have tried to write off Biden's "poor memory" as simply a consequence of age, but U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said that has nothing to do with it.

"It has nothing to do with his age," Palmer said on a recent episode of Rightside Radio.

The relevant portion begins around the 12:35 mark.

"Clint Eastwood directed and starred in a movie at 90 years old," he continued. "Harvey Mansfield is teaching at Harvard; he's 91. Henry Kissinger, he finished his last book when he was 98 or 99. It's about mental acuity, and there are people younger than Biden who struggle with this. So it's about his cognitive ability, not his age."

Palmer has asked to hear the interview tapes from the investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Hur into Biden's alleged mishandling of classified documents.

"What we need are the tapes because it is not just what they say but how they say it. It's the inflection in their voice," Palmer said. "It's how they stumble over answers and stuff that tells you that."

If it were primarily an age factor, Palmer said Nancy Pelosi and Bernie Sanders, both older than Biden, should resign.

He said the real reason Democrats are pushing the elderly angle is so they can use it against former President Donald Trump, who is 77, should he retake the White House this November.
