A University of Alabama doctoral student from Iran was transferred to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility on Thursday.
According to The Crimson White, Alireza Doroudi, a mechanical engineering doctoral student from Iran, was arrested by ICE agents at 5 a.m. at his home on Tuesday.
"ICE HSI made this arrest in accordance with the State Department's revocation of Doroudi's student visa," a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told CBS 42 in a written statement on Thursday. "This individual posed significant national security concerns."
Doroudi is currently being held in the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana after initially being detained in Pickens County Jail, according to ICE.
