The University of Alabama is expected to host a Republican primary debate in the 2024 presidential race.

According to multiple sources, that debate is slated to take place on the University of Alabama campus. However, the date and exact location are still up in the air.

While Alabama Republican Party leadership did not immediately comment on the potential debate, multiple sources have said the scheduling is all but finalized.

Of the declared candidates on the 2024 GOP ticket, perhaps none will draw more eyes than a potential showdown between former President Donald Trump and the thus far undeclared Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. However, Trump has recently shucked the prospect of participating in any GOP debates, citing media bias.

There are currently six declared candidates for the GOP ticket: Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Larry Elder, Asa Hutchinson, Perry Johnson and Vivek Ramaswamy. DeSantis is expected to announce his candidacy within a matter of weeks. Former Vice President Mike Pence is also rumored to declare for the 2024 ticket.

The primary debate at the University of Alabama would be the first in the state's history.
