During a Monday appearance on "The Next Round," Auburn legend and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley predicted his alma mater would give rival Alabama an "ass-kicking" in the 2023 Iron Bowl.

The students camped out, College Gameday was back in Neville Arena and Wendell Green Jr. scored a season-high 24 points, but Auburn could not stop the rolling of the Tide as Alabama secured another SEC win, 77-69. 

Normally when you hear “Iron Bowl” you think of Alabama and Auburn battling it out on the gridiron, but with Auburn’s hiring of Bruce Pearl, and Alabama’s hiring of Nate Oats, their respective schools are more than just “football schools” now, they play some high level basketball as well.

Here are five takeaways from the 87th Iron Bowl.

The 87th Iron Bowl wasn’t Alabama’s best performance, but the game was never in question as Alabama rolled to victory on Saturday 49-27.

Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming Iron Bowl, fans on both sides of the divide will flock to stores to find apparel to support the victorious team.

It is almost impossible not to be excited about what is happening at Auburn University and with its football team. Carnell "Cadillac" Williams is only three games in as head coach and already seems to have changed the momentum. 

The latter half of the 1970s and the first two years of the 1980s were part of a long dry spell for the Auburn Tigers against their in-state rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Only a month ago, most people would’ve predicted an obvious blowout in the 87th Iron Bowl. That was before Bryan Harsin was fired, and before Alabama would lose to LSU. Carnell ‘Cadillac’ Williams has breathed life into the program that had resonated with his players and five Auburn wins in 2 of its last 3 games. 

Despite weeks of speculation that he was coming to fill the Auburn head football coaching vacancy, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said he expected to return as coach of the Rebels in 2023.

Every Alabamian knows about the Iron Bowl, but football isn’t the only way Auburn and Alabama face off in November.
