Mayoral elections don’t begin until August 2025, but Sylacauga’s own Santa Claus is pulling double duty after announcing his bid for the mayor’s seat just ahead of the Christmas holiday.
Tempers were hot during a Tuesday evening Sylacauga City Council meeting, where residents expressed differing views on the ongoing controversy surrounding Haitian immigrants flooding into the city.

The Sylacauga council meeting ended abruptly Thursday night after council president Tiffany Nix shut down public comment due to citizens concerned with a recent influx of Haitian migrants.
