The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) is going “all out” ahead of Tuesday’s general election to secure the victory for Republican second congressional district candidate Caroleene Dobson.
Former President Donald Trump will almost certainly secure Alabama against his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. However, the newly redrawn second congressional district could add a new Democratic congressman to the state’s federal delegation.
Last year, the federal courts mandated a rewrite of the state's congressional lines. The resulting electoral shuffle led to incumbent AL-2 U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) vying for the first congressional seat, snatching the GOP nomination from incumbent U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) in the GOP runoff.
In AL-2, Dobson, the political newcomer, defeated former State Se. Dick Brewbaker to secure the GOP nomination. She faces former Obama staffer Shomari Figures in a hotly contested race.
Figures has a narrow lead. However, recent polls show that the gap is closing, promising a tight race on Tuesday.
To tilt the scales in Dobson’s favor, ALGOP has engaged in a comprehensive effort to help Dobson secure the seat, including registration drives, volunteer recruitment, direct mail and targeted Get Out The Vote efforts.
“We are not going to give up or surrender any districts to the Democrat Party,” ALGOP chair John Wahl. “Our goal is to stand strong for the people of Alabama and explain to them why the values of the Republican Party best serve them and their families in the coming years. We all know that the policies of the Democrat Party have failed the people of America and the people of Alabama. It is the Republican Party that has a record of defending and helping our state. Our party cut the grocery tax, passed school choice, and helped create much-needed jobs for communities across Alabama. Next Tuesday, there is a clear choice. Republicans will rebuild our economy, reduce inflation, secure our borders, and protect our children from transgender ideologies. We will always defend your God-given rights and freedoms, and we will put America first again.”
ALGOP also launched a campaign consisting of eight targeted mailers showcasing Dobson’s perceived qualifications and leadership qualities while underscoring the “potential risks” posed by Democratic control in Washington, D.C.
