Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) chairman John Wahl commended several Republican legislators for sponsoring bills in line with party's mission.
In an ALGOP release, Wahl praised State Reps. Ed Oliver (R-Dadeville) and Susan Dubose (R-Hoover), along with State Sen. Will Barfoot (R-Pike Road), for their recent bills fighting “woke policies.”
“There’s nothing more important to the Alabama Republican Party than protecting our children from woke policies,” Wahl said. “Our members have overwhelmingly passed resolutions on many of these issues, such as ending flawed DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) programs and stopping the teaching of divisive concepts in our classrooms.
Oliver and Barfoot are sponsoring bills banning the teaching of “divisive concepts” in Alabama schools and universities in their respective houses.
The legislation would prohibit certain public entities, including state agencies, local boards of education, and public institutions of higher education, from promoting or endorsing, or requiring affirmation of, certain divisive concepts relating to race, sex, or religion.
It would also prohibit certain public entities from conditioning enrollment or attendance in certain classes or training based on race or color. It would also authorize certain public entities to discipline or terminate employees or contractors who violate the bill's provisions.
Dubose’s recent bill would prohibit collegiate athletes from competing on sports teams designed for the opposite sex.
"So many of these subjects should be left to parents and not forced on our children in school,” Wahl concluded. “I want to thank Rep. Ed Oliver, Rep. Susan DuBose, and Sen. Will Barfoot for their leadership on these important issues. They've recognized the need for someone willing to stand in the gap, and are working to protect our state's young people and defend Alabama values. I am proud of their efforts.”
