Luther Winn, the CEO of Greene County Entertainment, says an investment group's proposal to bring live dog racing back to Eutaw isn't realistic.
A group called Pro Greyhound Racing Investors announced on Monday that it was planning to bring live greyhound racing back to Eutaw's Greenetrack Greyhound Track and Casino.
However, Winn told the Tuscaloosa Thread that the proposal wasn't feasible and that his entity was the county's only licensed greyhound racing operator.
"The act that created greyhound racing in Greene County only allows one licensed operator at one time, and at this point, Greene County Entertainment is the entity that holds the racing license," Winn told the outlet. "And it's good until 2033."
Winn told the outlet he has only had one unproductive conversation with Mac Davis, head of the outside investment group, about the matter and people shouldn't get their hopes up.
"Here at Greene County Entertainment right now, there are no kennels, no buildings, no live race track," Winn said. "I don't even know who would actually build a race track now because the one guy in the country who did that has passed away. It's just not realistic."
No venue in Alabama has offered live greyhound racing since the Birmingham Race Course discontinued it in 2020.
