MONTGOMERY — Chambers County native Kristin Nelson was sworn in on Thursday as the newly elected representative of House District 38.

Nelson, a Republican, won a resounding victory over her Democrat opponent, Hazel Floyd, during a special election on Tuesday, earning 84,7% of the votes cast.

“Thank you to all my amazing family,” she said from the House floor. “… Thank you to all the wonderful supporters in District 38, and it’s my honor to serve. And Mr. Speaker, fellow representatives, it is my honor to serve alongside you. So now, let’s get to work.”

Nelson, who also serves as the Chambers County Republican Party chairwoman, replaces State Rep. Debbie Wood (R-Valley), who resigned in June.
