A third teen suspect has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the October slaying of 22-year-old Elden Wright, who was one of five struck in the shooting.

The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) announced on Tuesday that an unnamed 16-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder and three counts of attempted murder. The MPD previously charged another unnamed 16-year-old suspect and Bakeith Lavaughn Jackson Jr., 18, both of Montgomery, in the murder. All three suspects face identical charges.

Three men and two juveniles were injured in the shooting that occurred on Oct. 23, 2024. Police were notified after the five victims showed up at the hospital. Wright and one of the juveniles sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other's injuries were not life-threatening.

The shooting occurred amidst a troubling trend of teen murder suspects.

In September 2024, a 14-year-old was charged with murdering a 67-year-old man at a gas station.

In June 2024, A 15-year-old boy was charged with capital murder in the shooting death of a 12-year-old girl in Montgomery.

The following month, two 16-year-old black males were arrested and charged with the murder of a Hispanic male in West Montgomery.

That same month, My'Quan Morris, 18, of Montgomery, was charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Kavone Mosquera during a robbery.

In September 2024, two Montgomery residents, aged 16 and 17, were arrested and extradited to Columbus, Ga., and charged with murder.
