MOBILE—U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) has never hidden her Christian faith. She declares it publically and proudly, letting it guide her as a lawmaker, wife, and mom. Though her strong convictions have brought criticism and ridicule, she said Christians everywhere must get involved in the political process for their own sakd and the sakes of their children.

“If we don't get engaged, get vocal, be direct and create momentum around our Lord, our values, our people and our opportunity, we're going to wake up and the next generation is not going to have anything left to fight for,” Britt told 1819 News during an interview on Monday in Mobile.

Over the past two months, Britt said she has been reminded of why she decided to get off the sidelines and run for office.

“Things that would have been defining moments for an entire generation of people have been packed into a two-month time period,” she explained. "And I think it's more important now than ever that we speak directly about that and be unafraid to stand for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for the values that they represent, for the people we represent, because unfortunately, there is so much that's emerging.”

Following the opening night of the Olympics, Britt criticized the apparent portrayal by drag queens of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Last Supper.”

However, she said boycotting the Olympics, as many have suggested, would only hurt those who have actually worked to get to Paris.

“It's a really sad time because so many of these athletes have absolutely nothing to do with the opening ceremonies,” Britt told 1819 News. I feel like their training, determination, and the time and effort that they put into representing our country have unfortunately been diminished because of the way that the Olympics chose to roll this out.”

“So, I think you have to balance being direct about pointing out the mockery and spectacle on a stage to garner likes and tweets and making sure that the individual athlete that is trained and has spent time and has dreamed their whole life of representing our country and wearing our flag on the highest of stages, they're not penalized as a result.”

Britt said the mockery of the Christian faith is another example of how Christianity is falling out of favor in the world.

“We cannot sit silently,” Britt said. “This would not have happened with another religion. It is not okay for this to happen with regard to our Christian faith, period.”
