There were no late-game heroics from Wendell Green Jr. this time at Stegeman, as the Auburn faithful in Athens and at home watched as the Bulldogs dismantled the Tigers 76-64. Mike White is now 7-3 against Bruce Pearl in the SEC and has his first signature win at Georgia.
The Georgia Bulldogs were the worst team in the SEC last season, but that did not the No. 1 Tigers from dueling with their familiar foes in a contest that had every fan on the edge of their seat until a Wendell Green, Jr. layup saved the day for Auburn and preserved that No. 1 ranking for a bit longer.
With a recruiting class that addressed the defensive front in need of depth and talent, Auburn will also be getting some help on the back end of the defense with two veteran cornerbacks returning to the Plains.
