Friday on Huntsville WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) weighed in on the Huntsville City Council's vote to rename the city's Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to its previous title, Office of Multicultural Affairs, in accordance with President Donald Trump's executive order dismantling DEI.

Alabama's statewide DEI ban went into effect last October, but City of Huntsville spokesman Adam Smith said the City never disbanded its DEI office because the new law didn't apply to municipalities.

With places like Huntsville rebranding their DEI offices, Orr said he "would not be surprised to see a round two of legislation to address" examples of non-compliance.

"I think they're certainly acknowledging the law on the books, and I would have to get more information to know exactly the differences of the multicultural office as opposed to the former DEI office," Orr told host Dale Jackson.

"Here's what we're going to have to look at: again, the law just is a new law, and we're going to have to see not only how municipalities might be responding and being in compliance, but also the universities and see if they're complying in other arms of government or government-supported institutions across the state to see where the compliance is," he added. "And if we see non-compliance, then I would not be surprised to see a round two of legislation to address it."
